Almost. It actually relates more to the default MAC display,
which is...(drum roll please)...a 640 x 480/square pixel image.
Yes, higher resolutions are available, yes 640 x 480 cuts off the
sides just a bit on an NTSC monitor (the ones I use anyway, made
by such damnably lightweight manufacturers as SONY, Videotek,
etc.) to have just a bit of a black edge _inside_ the action safe
area, but think about this for a second...you can define your
render pixel aspect, you can define a limited region (640 x 480
can be "cut out" from 720 x 480 rather handily), so if you know
you're going to an AVID, why not just define your render such
that it matches the display initially?
Really, the best solution would be true inter-platform
interoperability, but remember also that until recently, AVID was
_not_ intended to be a finishing machine. Now they are, and they
are also one of the developers of the OMF (Open Media Framework)
standards. Perhaps NewTek might consider signing on, so they
might have the ability to integrate LightWave into an AVID
environment in the future (obvious marketing strategy if they're
going to be developing for the Mac, as well as the Windows and
SGI versions of Media Suite Pro).
Just one guy's thoughts on the matter...
